It has been a while since the last update. We now have two very mobile children, which is my excuse for getting next to nothing done in the last several months.
Little Maggie is coming in to her own very quickly. Ever since she decided to walk (she went from scooting on her bottom to walking with not even a hint of crawling), her demeanor has changed completely. Gone is the happy go lucky little baby that loved nothing more than to sit in one spot and play with any toy (usually a toy of Katie's choice). She now has a very clear idea of what she wants at all times and can be heard moaning "no, No, NOOO" if she doesn't get it. Don't get me wrong, she is still a very happy baby, but now she's able to stick up for herself a little better -- quite important given Katie's recent penchant for having anything that Maggie has and doing anything that Maggie is doing.
She's become a little communicator as well. She can say quite a few words now: Mama, Dada, eat, book, what's that?, uh-oh, moo (like a cow), among others.. She also knows quite a few signs including eat, more, book, hat, cereal, please and baby. She eats like a champ too, although she seems to be getting a little picky about her green vegetables as of late.
Once she started walking, there was no stopping her. Now she'll walk from room to room, picking up various things a long the way, stopping only to sit on her kid chair, a step stool, or anything else she can set her little behind on. She has taken quite an interest in books in the last few weeks and now if we just make the sign for book she will quickly go fetch a book from the bookshelf and bring it over for us to read to her. The best part is that she also knows how to put books away, and with a little encouragement will bring the book we just finished back over to the shelf before she gets another one.
Katie is doing great too. She's fully potty trained now (has been for a couple months), just in time for preschool to start a couple of weeks. She is very excited to go to school, although she still thinks she's going to be riding a bus to school, so getting a ride from Mommy or Daddy might be a bit of a let down. Katie's vocabulary has taken off, and we sometimes forget that she's only three. She can often be heard singing her favorite songs (Ring around the Rosie, any of the 101 Silly Songs, or Hey Soul Sister by Train) or talking about her best friends Spider Web and Pinky and Dolphin.
She loves playing baseball with the foam bat and ball, loves watching Blues Clues or Dora, loves wagon wheel pasta and green vegetable smoothies, loves being outside doing just about anything, loves getting her hair washed about as much as she likes any kind of meat (who knew there was such a thing as a 3-year-old vegetarian). Most of all she loves to read. Anything. Doesn't even have to have pictures, although a few seem to help. She loves to get her monthly Highlights magazine. She loves to play hide and seek, although she hasn't quite figured out that she's supposed to stay hidden until you find her. 87.5% of the time she loves her sister, and can be soooo sweet by helping her get a toy or giving her a kiss or a hug. The other 12.5% of the time she just wants whatever Maggie has, or sitting where Maggie is sitting, etc... Those times can be a bit of a challenge, but nobody ever said this was going to be easy :-)
