Vacation in Vermont

If you're going to vacation on a different coast than where you live, you definitely have to go for at least two weeks. So that's what we did -- 17 days in fact. So we packed up the kids and met the grandparents at the airport and off we all went. I'm really not sure what we would have done if Bob and Rita hadn't been with us. Traveling with one little one was hard enough, but two is down right treacherous. Aside from a couple of hiccups, however, the girls were fantastic travelers.

Vermont was fun. We didn't manage to do very much in terms of sight seeing and day trips, but maybe that's really the point of vacation. We did get up to the Champlain Valley Fair one day. Katie got to ride a pony and see lots of animals. She could care less about rides and games at this age -- all she cared about was seeing the farm animals.

We also did a day trip to Shelburne Farms. We took the guided tour on a wagon through the grounds, one of the houses and the barn area. It's a truly spectacular area with hundreds of acres of trees and fields backing up to cascading views of Lake Champlain. Katie could have cared less about the tour, but was thrilled when we (finally!) arrived at the petting barn. There were cows, chickens, pigs, donkeys, sheep among other animals, and Katie even got to milk a cow (with a little help from Mommy). Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the camera that day, so we only have video of that trip.

The rest of the vacation was spent around the lake, visiting with family, reading books, taking walks and kayak rides, playing fetch with Danny Boy, and just plain relaxing. We had great food, and even some lobster from Maine thanks to Uncle Larry and Aunt Joan. Katie was in hog heaven getting to spend so much time with her cousins, and Maggie was happy just hanging out and getting to be held so much. She is definitely one happy baby.
