How much better could this fall season be? Not only are the Sox kicking butt over the Rockies, but Deanna, Katie and I also got to take the weekend off from home chores and work to PLAY!! Our primary conquest was to find a pumpkin for our pumpkin. No matter what else happened, we would return with Katie's first Halloween pumpkin. Our first trip was to the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Amboy, WA. It was a little further to get there than I thought, but a beautiful drive, indeed. The Grist Mill was pressing apples to make their famous cider. They only press apples once a year, so needless to say it was a little bit busy there (we probably had to walk a half mile up hill both ways to get there...). There was a huge line if you wanted to buy cider, but to just view the apple pressing, cutting and mashing in the mill there was no waiting.

We then went to the Pomeroy Living History Farm. This is a working (?) farm that is a little valley near the Lewis River. They have farm animals, pumpkin patches, a hay ride, etc... The best part by far was the hay ride. In the middle of the ride you stop to pick pumpkins out of their pumpkin patch. Katie got a free pumpkin -- something about pumpkins first pumpkin. Then you get back on the hay ride and drive through their pumpkin parade route. Lots of displays along the side of the road that have scarecrow-pumpkin scenes. Take a look at the slide show and you'll get the idea...
Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about posting the vacation pictures from Vermont -- there are hundreds of them, however, so I'm just trying to sort through them to pick out the best.
